Digital: PhotoShop, Procreate and Illustrator

Personal Artwork

A portrait of my niece, Hope for her birthday. Basic lines were created on my iPad using Procreate app and then sent to my computer to clean up in Illustrator. Lastly, sent over to Photoshop for painting and textures. Although I could have used just Photoshop, I really enjoy how Procreate draws lines with ease. Plus, using a stylus feels more natural than even using other tools like a Wacom pad. It still takes a bit of getting used to since there still is a sort of disconnect from the stylus to the screen. I still prefer a real pen or brush on paper or canvas over electronic tools. Although they are not as forgiving if you make a mistake, but is much easier to fix. You also don’t get the texture as well, which is so important.

I love to look at real brush strokes and how the colors blend together. In digital, you really get none of that. What you do get is a different kind of detail. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, it’s just different.
